Abstract

Bautista, Eulito U. University of the Philippines at Los Baños, May 1983. Common Metering Mechanism for Prilled, Forestry Grade and Supergranular Applicators. Major Professor: Dr. Clarence W. Bockhop. One of the simplest metering devives which can handle fertilizers of different granule sizes and shapes with considerable consistency, the cup metering devices which can handle fertilizers of different granule sizes and shapes with considerable consistency, the cup metering device was proven to have satisfactory performance when used in prilled, forestry grade and supergranular fertilizers. The performance of the device for any of prilled, forestry grade or supergranular urea fertilizers was greatly affected by the hopper and the pick up chamber base angles, the size of the hopper opening and the cup peripheral velocity. The device could handle any of the three fertilizer materials satisfactorily at 55 º hopper base angle, with an equivalent 30º base angle at the pick up chamber, and 38 mm size of the hopper opening when it is operated up to a maximum cup velocity of about 11.5 meters/min. However, the device would perform better if adjustment in the base angles is provided. A 45º hopper base angle with a 20º base angle of the pick up chamber would be desirable for USG and forestry grade urea. Higher base angle of 55º and 30º for the hopper and the pick up chamber, respectively, are required for prilled urea.
