Abstract

The study was conducted to determine (1) LPCRN subscribers' perception of a development-oriented extension publication and LPCRN itself based on the general criteria formulated by the Associated Press Managing Editors' Association (APMEA); (2) the relationship between the subscribers' socio-demographic characteristics, mass media exposure, contact with extension workers, cosmopoliteness, and their perception of a development-oriented extension publication and LPCRN; and (3) how subscribers rated LPCRN as a development-oriented extension publication.

The professional and non-professional subscribers of LPCRN perceived a development-oriented extension publication as one which is accurate, responsible and easily understood. Likewise, they perceived LPCRN as one which has relevant content, has good legibility and layout.

Significant relationships were found to exist between (1) age and their perception of all the dimension-attributes of a development-oriented extension publication; (2) educational attainment and their perception of all the dimension-attributes; (3) occupational status and their perception of all the dimension- attributes; (4) organizational affiliation and their perception of accuracy, responsibility, understandability and layout; (5) contact with extension workers and their perception of all the dimension-attributes; and (6) cosmopoliteness and their perception of all the dimension-attributes.

Correlation coefficient test was also conducted to determine the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics of LPCRN subscribers, mass media exposure, contact with extension workers, cosmopoliteness and their perception of LPCRN.Significant relationships existed between (1) age and perception of newsworthiness, accuracy, responsibility, understandability, layout and legibility; (2) educational attainment and perception of the seven dimension-attributes; (3) occupational status and their perception of all the dimension-attributes of LPCRN; (4)contact with extension workers and perception of all the dimension- attributes; (5) cosmopoliteness and their perception of news- worthiness, content and layout.

As a development-oriented extension publication, LPCRN was rated high in legibility, content and newsworthiness. On the whole, it was rated 93.3 percent development-oriented.
