Abstract
Abstract: In an effort to further improve the performance of the agricultural of the Agricultural Mechanization Development Program (AMDP) rice transplanter, said machine was tested and evaluated. Observations vital to its performance were recorded and used as basis for modifying its various parts and assemblies. Particular emphasis was focused on the float design and its effect on the crop stand. The modification resulted in a 31.90% weight reduction and better performance of the machine. Four float designs were fabricated and tested for their relative performance and effect on the crop stand (including unplanted hills, misplanted hills, and covered hills). The best float was adapted and retested with the modified transplanter. Test results showed a significant decrease of unplanted hills (5.44%) and covered hills (7.34%) compared with the previous unit?s 17.06 % unplanted hills and 17.33% covered hills. The principle of weight transfer was applied in testing the various float designs. The treatment (float design) has no significant on the crop stand. The various modifications made on the rice transplanter led to the solution of several problems and resulted in some advantages including 1) easy to maneuver at headlands due to the provision of a lifting mechanism which prevented bulldozing of the mud, 2) frequent disengagement of the driving chain was avoided by changing the hitchpoint location, 3) the double sprocket and shaft power transmission assembly was reduced to a single telescopic shaft and hitch, 4) vibration of the cam guide was decreased by changing the roller material from cold rolled steel to engineering plastic, 5) dynamic stability of the unit was improved with the new float design, 6) the adjustable seedling bar allows adjustment to various seedling heights, 7) the unit can now be operated close to dikes by eliminating the protruding seedtray carrier, and 8) damage to the planting fork due to overload when stucked up is avoided with the provision of a safety release mechanism.
