Communication participation by members of the Jakarta dairy Cooperative.

Abstract
This study sought to find out the communication participation of the Jakarta Dairy Cooperative members.The study Also attempted to find out the relationship between selected demographic information and communication participation, the relationship between selected demographic information and implementation of the program and the relationship between communication participation and implementation of the program.Simple random sampling was used to obtain 158 respondents. All ofthe respondents were members of the Jakarta Dairy Cooperative. Datawere gathered through interviews with the respondents and with the officials of the Jakarta Dairy Cooperative.The data showed that most of the respondents hadhaformalschoolingrangingfromtheelementarytothetertiarylevel.AlmostallofTherespondentswereorganizationmembersorparticipantsofotherorganizations. Only 15 percent of the respondents had attended training courses.The study further revealed that 87 percent of the respondents hadattended annual meetings once or twice while 13 percent havenever attended annual meetings, With regard to participation in group discussions, committee membership and interpersonal communication, thedata indicated that 42 percent of the respondents had participated in group discussion, 15 percent in committee membership and 91 percent consulted with somebody.In the implementation of the dairy cooperative program, the study showed that only seven percent of the respondents had transferredtheir dairy cattle to the new location, but almost 79 percent of the respondents bought dairy cattle feed from the cooperative and only nine percent have not been visited by a Veterinarian and AI technicians.Chi-square tests revealed that three selected demographic; information variables were significantly related to the attendance in meeting, participation in group discussion and committee membership,and dairy cattle resettlement. Dairy cooperative members with more organizational membership/participation and training attended had highparticipation in attendance in meeting and group discussion and committee membership. Similarly, dairy cooperative members with some education and training attended had also high attention to the implementation of dairy cattle resettlement.Furthermore, chi-square tests also showed that of the three communication variables, two were significant to the implementationof dairy cattle resettlement and supply of dairy cattle feed. Likewise, dairy cooperative members with high participation in groupdiscussion and committee membership had high implementation of dairycattle resettlement. On the other band, dairy cooperative memberswith high interpersonal communication also had high implementation of supply of dairy cattle feed.
