Abstract
This study was an attempt to examine the instructional media utilization practices and factors affecting such practices by the teaching staff of Institut Pertanian Bogor. Specifically, this study aimed: to describe the characteristics of the teaching staff in rela-tion to their use of instructional media both in its production and its utilization; to know the services provided by the Information Resource in terms of preparing, producing and using the instructional media by the teaching staff, and to identify existing need and hindrances of the teaching staff in terms of instructional media ..itilization so that corresponding solutions may be prescribed and a plan of action be developed and implemented.One hundred forty five of the teaching staff of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) were selected as respondents and survey questionnaire was utilized for gathering the data. More than two-thirds of the respondents had over 6 years of teaching experience, and 62.07 percent had completed and had attained MS and Ph.D degree. The respondents were affiliated with seven faculties at IPB.The results of the study indicated that only a few instructional media can satisfactorily be operated by the majority of the respondents. The instructional media most frequently used by them were chalkboard; overhead projector and tranparencies; charts, graphs and illustrations; slide projector and slide sets; and specimens The majority of the respondents assigned the instructional media for out of class use by student for both in the undergraduate and graduate levels.More than fourfifths of the respondents indicated that the contributions of instructional media in teaching activities are significant. They also consider themselves proficient in using five instructional media, namely : chalkboard; overhead projector and transparencies; slide projector and slide sets; charts, graphs and illustrations; and specimens. The majority of the respondents have successfully and satisfactorily been operating instructional media since they began their teaching career with IPB
