Abstract
This study determined the level of interagency communicatiun and extent of interagency coordination in the Regional ApplieU Communication office (RA CO) for Region VIII. Moreover, this aimed to:7,7ructura1 consequences of interagency communication and coordination =ICC); (7.7.' describe the interorganizational and intraorganizational 'sztors as inputs into ICC; (3) describe the communication network Pattern within PACO VIII; (4) establish a relationship between (a) levelcommunication and extent of coordinaticri, and (b) level of =Trunication, extent of coordination and stru;tural consaduences of =7; (5) identify communication and non-communil-etion related problemsRACO and (6) identify solutions to these problems,A surrey of RAC° VIII participants using a self-a.'inistuned 18-nage questionnaire, and participant observation method was smcloyed -,alidate thedata.Also. representatives of extension workers wsre askedanswer a ;-page self-administered questionnaire on RACO and the state of extension communication in the region,Findings revealed that 55 percent of the participants had highlevels of interagency communication as well as interagency coordination. There was a moderate correlation between interagency communication and interagency coordination (.57) and between interagency communication and structural consequences of ICC (.77), and between interagency coordination and structural consequences of ICC (.87). This meant that a moderate to high, marked relationship existed between these threevariables.Participants also perceived that there were only functional oorsequences and no dysfunctional consequences cf ICC.The organizational factors that were leJouts in ICC were zr-ganizational and communication structure, coordination function. e--alization, scope, interorganizational commitment, extension co_mmurication policies, complexity, power dynamic ,3. other negotiated -slationships, centralization, formalization and resources. The communication network revealed that friendship, loceel of authority and _rrformation were the bases for links.Problems in ICC included lack of resources, both material and`man, difficulty in communicating, conflicting commitments, unclear any -1= so well-defined responsibilities and goals of ICC. same solutions Ldentified to help solve these problems.
