Abstract
The study sought to determine how boarding schools of Myitkyina Diocese serve to communicate leadership values to highschool students. A total of 52 high school students from five boarding schools of Myitkyina Diocese were surveyed through a questionnaire. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results of the study showed that in the high school students'' definitions of leadership, the characteristics of integrity and self discipline were highly rated, and leaders with moral values were their priority in leadership qualities. The study discovered that communication process, approaches, methods and materials were used to impart leadership values, but communication strategies still need to be improved. One way communication process was used more than either two-way or three-way communication. At the same time, the use of mass media, electronic media and folk media were found to be weak. The study also revealed that the blackboard was used as a main communication material in boarding schools; however, the use of the other communication materials, particularly electronic materials, was weak. Results of the study also proved leadership values were taught and highly valued in boarding schools in terms of morality, spirituality, discipline, and learning. Punishment was still practiced in boarding schools in order to instill discipline and good moral character into the students. The study also found that communication process, approaches, methods and materials had strong correlation with leadership values in terms of morality, spirituality, discipline, and learning. Better communication strategies would impart better leadership values to boarding students, who, in turn, would be the ones to carry out the development of their own areas in Kanchin State, Myanmar.
