Abstract
Using the three sampling schemes on the uniformity trial data on grain yield of sorghum obtained from a 2000—square—meter. lot and computing their true variances showed systematic sampling as consistently having the smallest true varieties, hence it was considered the most efficient; simple random sampling gave the largest variances, hence the least efficient. The variances of the different sampling schemes decreased as sample sizes increased. The estimates of the variance also decreased as sample sizes increased; however, the efficiency of the sampling schemes can not be based on their comparison alone since they only provide point estimates.
