Abstract

The major practice was conducted in Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort (VESPAR) located in San Pablo City, Laguna from April 19 to May 28. 2010. The site is roughly 800 hectares of land which comprise mostly of the Coconut Plantation and a portion was developed to a resort.

The major practice focused on the implementation of the design of a pan of the Welcome Lawn (Lawn Area 1B) through land clearing, preparation, lay-outing and planting and in landscape maintenance operations in various areas of the resort like the Big House, Museum's Plaza, Wedding Center and Coconut Pavilion wherein walk-through inspection and supervisory exercise were also conducted. The student was also exposed in the construction of the athletic area's base map which includes the tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. Moreover, a base map of a portion at the water falls was also constructed. A cost analysis on the implementation of the design in the Welcome Lawn and maintenance operations in the Coconut Pavilion was made. The estimated cost of the landscape implementation in the Welcome Lawn (Lawn Area 1B) with 8,414.75 sq. m amounted to Php75.273.00 or Phi' 8.95 per sq. m while the landscape maintenance of the Coco Pavilion (9,954.87 sq. m) costs Php15,436.00 per month and Php1.55 per sq. m.

Problems encountered in the major practice such as the use of dull and inappropriate tools, prolific weeds, presence of voids, irregular watering, improper way of handling fertilizer, lack of funds and problems in management-personnel relations were noted to formulate the recommendations applicable for each area of concern.
