Abstract

It is a duty of every electric cooperative in the country to satisfy the needs of its customer. Thus, a reliable system is needed in order to supply continuous electricity without any interruptions. To do this, reliability indices are developed to aid each cooperative in assessing the performance of their system. In this study, the system performance of electric cooperative (CEBECO III) under the National Electrification Administration was evaluated through calculation of reliability indices. The results of the computation was interpreted and compared to the standards set by NEA. It was found out that CEBECO III was reliable in terms of the system average duration of interruption (20.67 minutes/customer). However, other reliability indices failed the criteria for reliability, hence; the overall system performance of CEBECO is not reliable and recommended for system improvement. In addition, this study provided the performance rating scheme used by NEA and ERC as basis in giving reward or penalty to the cooperative. Beta method was also used to remove the major events that affect the reliability measures to avoid distortion and to help the utility track improvements of the electric system.
