Abstract

The major practice was conducted at Toscana Farms Inc., Tolentino West, Tagaytay City, Cavite from April to May 2009. The farm grows tomato and bell pepper in greenhouses all-year round. The student participated in all farm activities such as cleaning of greenhouses, sowing, seedling care, transplanting, hormone application, trellising, side shooting, harvesting and packaging. The student also observed and performed other cultural practices that distinguish greenhouse farming from field farming like the use of suspended nylon wires for trellising and hormone application. Comparison of growth type and rate between different varieties of tomatoes and bell peppers was done. Different ways in controlling pests and diseases inside the greenhouse such as spraying of pesticide and removal of weeds and algae from the drainage pipes were observed or practiced by the student. Implication and effect of all these practices on the growth and yield of tomatoes and bell peppers were determined. Expenditures and the approximate income of the farm through the amount of products sold were recorded. Cost and return analysis was presented. Photographs and data were collected throughout the farm practice.
