Abstract
An alternative model for land suitability using fuzzy set theory is developed. Land suitability is the compatibility of land use and land mapping unit which can be represented by land requirement and land qualities, respectively. Fuzzy set theory, as the suitability function, uses data with attributes that have zones of gradual transition rather than sharp boundaries. Operation in fuzzy sets are explained and illustrated using maize as the land utilization type.
