Abstract
Service Reliability has always been one of the primary concerns in the design of the power system especially of the distribution system. Some f the factors that contribute to service reliability are the different overcurrent protective devices installed on the lines of the distribution system. This study aims to provide a comparative analysis of the different overcurrent protective device to be installed in the system. Such devices are the switch, secctionalizer, recloser with the three phase operation and recloser with single phase operation. Using Feeder 11 of NEECO II Area of Region 3, the analysis is done with the aid of the system SynerGEE® program. The data used are based on the historical data of the feeder provided by NEA. The first part of the study shows the different specifications and standards set by NEA on the devices to be used on the lines. Theses specifications became bases of the ratings of the devices to be used in the simulation. The second part provides a Case Analysis on the different combination of the overcurrent devices in feeder 11. To assess the improvement, the Reliability Indices SAIFI, SAIDI, and MAIFI are used. The result show that combinations of devices with recloser with single phase operation provide the highest percentage improvement as long as service reliability is concerned.
