Abstract

The socio-economic distribution of the new freshmen who took the College Admission Test (CAT) III for school year 1973-74 was subjected to a study. - Together with the study are the comparison of the place of birth and high school graduated by the admitted and not admitted students and those by the post and pre-CAT freshmen. Results revealed that with the advert of CAT, the UPLB student's profile had been altered. There are more post-CAT students that come from urban places and that graduated from private schools than the pre-CAT freshmen. Likewise, female students continue to increase in proportion and take part in the field of specializations which used to be for males. The standard of high school was found to be a determining factor in passing the CAT with place of birth only a contributory factor.
