Abstract

This study is concerned with the development of alternative course outlines for Math 17 (Algebra and Trigonometry). The alternative were obtained by generating course outlines which differ in contents (topics) and the number of examinations given for each outline. six criteria were used as bases for preference namely the importance, inclusion of unfamiliar topics depth, breath number of examinations and lecture hours the points of view of the teacher and the student were considered. In order to obtain the desired data a survey of teachers with experience in teaching the subject for at least one semester was conducted. A technique called the Multicriteria decision making method was applied in order to come up with the desired alternatives. The results showed that irrespective of the 2 points of view, course outlines having fewer examinations on their schedules are preferred than outlines with more examinations in addition. some of the recommended topic which were included in the alternatives developed. came out as better than the present course outline.
