Abstract

The major practice was conducted on a seven (7) hectare farm in Barangay San Roque, Victoria, Laguna owned and managed by the Lobo Family. The purpose was for the student practitioner to gain hands-on experience with the various cultural practices involved in citrus production and management. At the same time, the student was allowed to identify and analyze existing problems and give its corresponding recommendations.

Participation in various farm activities and open discussions with the owner and farm laborers were conducted. Various cultural practices such as weeding, irrigation, fertilization, harvesting and marketing were done by the student. The farms' production costs and returns were also computed to evaluate this year's income.

Problems identified were the following: a) high disease occurrence, b) use of unsterilized pruning tools, c) application of too much fertilizers, d) poor maintenance of drainage canals, e) irregular spacing and age of trees, f) lack of protection and care when spraying chemicals, g.) fanning by remote control, h.) lack of farm records and g.) inefficient utilization of labor. Solutions to these problems were given. The farm earned a total income of P 134,564 for this year's cropping season.
