Abstract

Multi-attribute utility theory using the final asset; the final forgone asset; and the worry level was used to model the insurance buying behavior. Two models were constructed. The first one made use of the final asset and the worry level as attributes, while the second one used all of the three attributes. Preference structure and the attitude of an individual towards worry were studied. The first model was verified by performing actual utility assessment on four potential insurance buyers who did not have any insurance policies.
