Abstract

A major practice program was conducted on management practice and production of coconut-pineapple intercrops in small farms. The objectives of this are to provide the students with practical skills and techniques on production and management of coconut-pineapple farming to apply and integrate crop production principles and to evaluate the cost and return of coconut-pineapple cropping system.

The two phases of the program were the on-campus activities done at the Plantation Crops Division of the Department of Horticulture and the off-campus activities which was done in Santa Maria Magdalena.

Practical farming activities were undertaken through interviews, observation and discussion with the farmers. Problems encountered by the farmers on their farming activities were analyzed and possible solutions were recommended.

A farmer practicing coconut-pineapple farming gets an additional net income of 8,898.40/ha from pineapple. Two, of the major problems are high cost of fertilizer and highly fluctuating price of pineapple fruits.
