Abstract

Sixty-five cashew trees in some towns of Zambales and Laguna were surveyed and their apple, nut and kernel characters evaluated to identify the promising trees and to determine correlation between some of these characters.

Significant variations in all characters measured existed among the trees.

Twenty-six are considered promising for apple and kernel production and twenty-nine for nut production. The five most promising are Tree Numbers RCT1, RCT2, 179, 180, and 198.

Highly positive correlations exist between apple weight and size, nut weight and size, nut weight and kernel weight, and apple weight and nut weight.
