Abstract

A PLD-based training system consisting of the board and the manual was designed, and implemented. The board made use of complex programmable logic device (CPLD), specifically the MAX EPM7128SLC-7. Input and output devices/circuits were added to the board. The seven-segment display and light-emitting diode circuits were designed as output devices of the board. The fast clock, slow clock, and push button circuits were constructed as input clock preferences of the CPLD. The switch circuit was constructed as an input device. The programmer was added to allow transmission of data to the CPLD and from the PC. The ports were added for connection of external input or output devices/circuits to the board such as the keypad circuit A manual was developed containing CPLD, VHDL and sonic digital logic topics for guide and reference to the users. The training system was evaluated to a group of students Results show that there is at increase in the in the scores of the respondents who took the pre-tests and post-tests. The evaluation of the board and the manual showed that the VHDL and PLD Training System are effective tools in learning about PLD, VHDL and digital circuits.
