Abstract

The farm practice, conducted at the farm of Dr. Roberto C. Bautista located at Barangay Prinza, Quarry Site, Calauan, Laguna, aimed to give the student a chance to observe the actual production of lanzones and to participate in farm activities. The one-hectare farm is planted to lanzones and coconut.

The production operations and practices observed in the farm are weeding, pruning, chemical spraying, fertilization, harvesting, postharvest handling, and marketing. In 1993, the gross income realized from growing lanzones was P29,190.00 with a net return of P13,669.00. The farm has a total gross income of P34, 801.00 derived from two crops, lanzones and coconut.

The following suggestions were given to improve farm operations: keeping annual records, use of protective gears while spraying chemicals, use of ladder in pruning and harvesting, use of pole and sharp knife with basket in harvesting, maintaining adequate irrigation to induce flowering, planting productive crops to idle areas in the farm, and treating root rot-infected lanzones trees with proper pesticide. Pruning the unproductive branches can increase lanzones production. The coconut market should be expanded to increase income from this crop.
