Abstract

A wireless electrical load monitoring and control device with Bluetooth connectivity was developed. The system is composed of a digital energy meter unit, and a wireless monitoring and control device. The digital energy unit has an AC Power Analyzer module that outputs measurements such as voltage, current, real power, apparent power. reactive power and power factor. The average accuracy of the AC Power Analyzer module based from the measurements was observed to he 99%. A microcontroller board was also included for controlling the AC Power Analyzer, Bluetooth device, and solid-state relay that can trip off power line connection. A wireless monitoring and control device was designed and implemented for remote monitoring of the energy meter unit. It also has a microcontroller board that controls a serial LCD display. a Bluetooth device that connects with the energy meter unit, and switches that turns the device on and off and the solid-state relay on the energy meter unit. The connectivity success rate of the wireless device with the energy meter unit was found to be 100%. The switching success rate of the solid-state relay was 100% when tested. This study provides a good reference in building a wireless and portable electrical load monitoring system that can analyze and control electrical loads for energy saving.
