Abstract
A reflectance and transmittance spectrometer was designed, tested and implemented. The movement and placement of the sample and sensor holders were controlled by a microcontroller using stepper motors. A 16 bit ADC was connected to the microcontroller for data acquisition. A user interface was designed to control both the monochromator system and the stepper motors. Reflectance and transmittance experiments were conducted to test the performance of the whole system. the reflectance of silicon was observed using 3 different angles of incidence. The transmittance of an InN film was obtained in the wavelength range from 1400nm to 400nm. The results in both the reflectance and transmission experiments were close to the theoretical values. The set up was placed at the Physics Laboratory, Institute of Mathematical sciences and Physics, University of the Philippines at Los Ratios.
