Abstract

A data logger with for temperature and relative humidity using 1-wire sensors with wireless network capabilities is presented in this study. This logger was to collect temperature and relative humidity measurements with the use of 1-Wirer. sensors. The Tiny Internet Interface TINITM was used to implement network connectivity for the sensors. The wireless capability was implemented with the use of the Linksys® Compact Wireless-G which provided the wireless network for the logger. The TINITM module was assigned a static IP address. By typing this IP address at the web browser, one can access the webpage generated by the TINITM Multiple computers can access data from the logger by connecting wirelessly to the wireless network provided by the router. The webpage displays a table of the measurements obtained from the sensors. The software framework for the DSTINIT. in retrieving data from the sensors and displaying the results on an html page was developed using the JAVATM language. The logger was then deployed at the Agromet Station at University of the Philippines Los Banos for data gathering. Data from the logger was then compared with manual measurements, PAGASA routine measurements, and existing data logger measurements (HOBO and LiCor). Comparison of relative humidity measurements were limited only to the manual measurements and the PAGASA routine measurements. Results showed that the readings obtained by the 1-Wire Sensors are well within acceptable standards and are comparable with standard commercial loggers with temperature percent differences of less than 6% and relative humidity percentage differences of less than 5%. This study provides wireless access through a local network and can be further developed to cater to wider internet applications.
