Abstract

GALEDO, MARNIEL LESLEE AQUINO. College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, University of the Philippines Los Bafios. April 2013. Hydraulic Analysis of a Multi-Barrel Reinforced Concrete Box/Pipe Culvert on a Gully at Tagaytay Midlands' Lakeside Fairways

Major Adviser: Dr. Eliseo V. Ana, Jr

The culvert structure under construction at the Lakeside Fairways is part of the land development project of Belle Corporation. To evaluate the performance of the culvert and ensure its adequacy prior to its actual operation, hydraulic analysis on the designed culverts was done in this study. Using HEC-RAS to model the culvert and the gully, discharges estimated using the rational method were simulated through the culvert. From the generated graphs, it was concluded that the culvert performs well in conveying a 100-year flood event. However, due to a decrease in velocity through the culvert, the risk of sedimentation is evident. It is therefore recommended that proper maintenance and monitoring must be implemented to ensure that failure of the culvert due to sediment build up is prevented.
