Abstract
The main objective of this study is to determine the effect of gamma radiation on the chemical properties and conductivity of undoped and sulfuric acid-doped polyaniline film. Chemically synthesized polyaniline films were casted on glass and doped with sulfuric acid. The films were exposed to y-radiation with 100, 500 and 1000 centigray dosage. After irradiation, structural characterization was done using the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Electrical measurements using four point probe method showed that the conductivity of the film increased in proportion to the amount of gamma radiation. The FTIR spectra of the undoped PAni showed indications of alteration in 2000 to 4000 cm-' upon irradiation. FTIR spectra of sulfuric acid-doped PAni revealed significant changes as the dosage is increased. This study indicates that the polyaniline film produced from chemical synthesis is sensitive to gamma radiation, thus it may be considered a potential basic sensor in the measurement of electromagnetic radiation.
