Abstract
A microcontroller-based doorlock system using smart card ID was designed and Implemented. A reader/writer circuit was developed to communicate with the GSM SIM card. The device used the USART of the microcontroller to transmit and receive data from the GSM SIM card. The ATMEGA 16L microcontroller was programmed with the code for the doorlock system. A motor was used in the design to drive the locking bolt of the door. A doorlock with mechanical locking mechanism was used to simulate conventional door using GSM SIM card. Different GSM SIM cards from local communication network were tested for compatibility with the device. Based from the tests done with the doorlock system it is therefore concluded that a GSM SIM card can be used as an ID for doorlock entry.
