Abstract

This study analyzed the determinants of women fertility desire in the Philippines using data from the National Demographic and Health Survey 2017 in a logistic regression. The individuals characteristics and their socio economic characteristics are factors considered by this study to have an influence on women's fertility desire. Based on the findings, women's individual and socioeconomic characteristics havean influence on their fertility desires. Specifically, these variables are the individual's age, number of years of education. marital status, number of contraception method known, their residence, employment status, household size, number of living children, and the individual's religion. It was found that there is a higher probability of women in the Philippines to desire for another child when they are younger, have higher educational attainment, is in a union, has more knowledge on contraception, have experienced child death, is employed and is a Muslim. In accordance to this, the study also confirmed Becker's (1960) and Leibenstein's (1975) theory that the preferences that influence an individual's utility are affected by the individual's characteristics such as their age, religion, and their status of the household.
