Abstract
A microprocessor-based pH control system using a combination pH electrode was designed and implemented. A calibration curve obtained using buffer solutions showed a linear relation between pH and electrode output voltage. The system controls improvised water gate valves for transferring acid and base from their respective reservoir to the solution. The valves were calibrated so that the time interval of its opening and closing is equivalent to one drop. The system can measure the pH of a solution and calculate and deliver the amount of acid or alkaline solution needed to attain the desired pH output. It can also maintain a given pH when influents of various acidity or alkalinity were added intermittently The system was interfaced to a personal computer through an input/output card using an analog to digital converter which uses Max120. A computer program in Visual Basic 6.0 was developed for the gathering and computing of data and controlling of all instruments.
