Abstract

Antiserum to Makapuno Proteins. Adviser: Dr. Evelyn Mae Tecson Mendoza The antiserum to makapuno was prepared by injecting mature (11-12 mos) makapuno crude extracts intramuscularly into two rabbits. The double diffusion tests showed a reaction of identify between the mature makapuno and normal coconut crude extracts against the antisera to mature makapuno obtained from the rabbits. The antiserum from rabbit II developed an extra precipitin band which was concave toward the mature makapuno crude extract well after 22 days of incubation. No precipitin band was developed between the control serum and the mature makapuno crude extract. Immunoelectrophoretic analyses of the three stages (IV: 9-10 mos, V: 10-11 mos., VI: 11-12 mos. ) of makapuno and normal coconut endosperm development using antiserum to makapuno showed a single and very sharp precipitin band or arc in each stage for both endosperms. Slight differences were observed in the length, density, and degree of curvature of the precipitin arcs. The precipitin arc corresponded to an intensely stained catholic band in the electrophoresed samples of both endosperms at the three stages studied.
