Abstract
The effects of Tubli (Dennis sp.) water extract on some reproductive parameters of adult male albino rats were evaluated. A 78-days treatment period was employed using a water extract via gavage technique. Three different treatment levels designated as high (16.67mg/kg) , moderate (8.33 mg/kg ), and low (3.33 mg/kg )were given to the rats daily Control rats were given water at 10m1/kg bw. Tubli crude water extract caused a significant decrease in sperm motility and increased percentage of abnormal sperm. However, no significant effect had been accounted for sperm count and organ (testis and epididymides) weights. No apparent gain in weight was observed on the treated animals except for the 1st and 8th week. Histopathological examination of the testes showed spermatogenic arrest and excessive edema of the intertubular spaces. Severely damaged spermatogenesis was noted on the highly treated animals. Moreover, absence of spermatocytes was observed on the granular Sertoli cells.
