Abstract
Cytological and karyological studies were conducted to differentiate adult male N. virescens populations sampled from tungro and non-tungro infested Taichung Native 1 (N1) rice cultivar. Testicular tissue preparations of N. virescens were fixed in Farmer's solution stored and preserved in 70% ethanol and stained with 2%-lactosceto-orcein N. Virescens sampled from tungro-infested TN1. had a higher meiotic index (85.176%) as compared to 83.029 for the non-tungro-infested TN1. At diakinesis. The chromosome number was confirmed to be 2n=15. Relative mean lengths of the chromosomes of the two populations were insignificantly different. also, N. virescens sampled from non-tungro-infested TN1 differed significantly. Exhibiting higher mean nuclear lengths and widths at leptotene. Pechytene, Metaphase I and Telophase 1 cells than those sampled from tungro-infested TN1.
