Abstract
Glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase isozymes were detected in 46 marker accessions in rice, which include 28 tester stocks, 17 mutant stocks and IR 36, using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. Zymograms were characterized by two zones of activity, designated by G6pd-1 and G6pd-2 each representing a group of adjacent isozymes. The locus represented by G6pd-1 isozymes was polymorphic, exhibiting a fast and a slow migrating band. Extensive polymorphism was observed among different accessions. The presence of a hybrid band in the F2 population of IR 36 / Acc. 23754 indicates the dimeric structure of the enzyme. The monogenic inheritance of the isozymes has been confirmed in studying the segregation among the F2 population.
