Abstract

The practicum was conducted in Wyeth Philippines, Incorporated ? Pfizer Nutrition from April 30 to May 19, 2012 for a period of 150 hours. The WPI-PN manufactures milk products such as S-26, Progress Gold, Bonakid, Promil, etc. which are well-known in the Philippines and even out of the country. The trainee was assigned to the Quality Operations division, specifically in the Microbiology Laboratory. She was able to observe the different tasks in the laboratory. Also, she was given the chance to experience hands-on training in environmental monitoring and media preparation done in the food industry and was able to test and apply the theories and principles she has learned in the four corners of the classroom. She was exposed to different technological equipment in the industry as well as to the different problems inside a real functional company. She saw the different troubleshooting manners for the problems observed and was tested with these problems when encountered alone. The entire training taught the importance of not just knowing the technicalities of the work but also the understanding of the personality of the people she worked with to be able to establish good working relationship. The experiences in the practicum equipped the trainee the knowledge, skill and determination that would definitely help her to become one of the most outstanding, effective, and efficient food technologist in the near future.
