Abstract

The Special Problem report entitled The Case of Ebenezer Farm: An Importing Goat Farm in Tarlac, Philippines aimed to analyze the goat farm industry. Specifically. It aimed to: present the external environment of the goat industry in the Philippines particularly in Region Ill where Ebenezer farm is located; describe the profile of Ebenezer farm: identify opportunities and challenges of the goat industry relating to Ebenezer farm. and: recommend solutions and strategies to Ebenezer farm.

The study is a descriptive type of research wherein all information and data obtained were processed qualitatively. Primary data were gathered through personal interviews with the manager of the Ebenezer farm, Ms. Camille Valencia (daughter of the owner Mr. Jonie Valencia). Secondary data were gathered from related studies from undergraduate and graduate thesis and special problems, journal articles, books, news articles and various internet sources. The data were analyzed utilizing the SWOT matrix. From there, the researcher recommended solutions and/or strategies to the problems identified.

As one of the importing goat companies here in the Philippines, Ebenezer goat farm is not famously known unlike its close competitor, JSJ goat frm. One of the competitive edge of Ebenezer is the offering of the most inexpensive live goat. However, it lacks promotional activities aside from word-of-mouth. Ebenezer goat farm is located in Region UI, specifically in Tarlac. It specializes in importing live goats. The manager operates and manages the farm on a day-to-day basis.

The problem identified in Ebenezer farm was the low volume of production attributed to its lack of marketing strategies. The causes of this were the following: importing goats are restricted by the government policies, limited products offered in the farm, poor money management, lack of management ability, lack of an effective and/or reliable market, failure to deliver products on time, and unexpected expenses.

To avert the problem identified, it was recommended that Ebenezer farm implement the following: venture in selling goat milk and meat to expand the line of business, establish online platform and try other promotional activities where customers can easily discover and reach them, join organizations of the same industry, and expansion of operation through breeding of goats. On part of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry, the following were recommended: development of local goat genetics for the international market, revive non-operational livestock auction market for goats, and promote potential export market of Philippine goat by-products.
