Abstract
To map quantitative trait loci (QTL) for carotenoid content in pepper, Capsicum anuum, F2 mapping population was established by crossing two cultivars, Agronomico and Verdeno Poblano and selfing F1. Phenotypic data such as mature fruit carotenoid content, fruit length width and weight, immature fruit chlorophyll content and plant height were also collected. A total of 112 markers were run on the parentals and F1 but only 12 showed polymorphism. Using markers 1G BM59622 located at 44.64 cM at chromosome 3 and 1H CA517699 located at 117.54 cM of chromosome 3. A total of four QTL were located, one each for zeaxanthin, 13-cryptoxanthin, a-carotene content and fruit width. The QTL for zeaxanthin is at 51-114 cM, for B-cryptoxanthin it is at 51-88 cM, for a-carotene 55-75 cM and for fruit width it is about at 103 cM .
