Abstract
Plasma protein polymorphism among the residents of Barangay Baybayin, Los Banos, Laguna was investigated using the Polyacrylamide Disc Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE) technique. A total of 37 bands with varying mobilities, intensities and frequencies were observed in both native and migrant residents. For both natives and migrants, the fastest moving band was designated as band number 1, while the slowest moving band was designated as band number 37. For the Natives, the highest percentage occurrence was observed in band number 7 with 75.94, and the lowest percentage occurrence was observed in band number 28 with 16.54%. Band number 1 has the highest average relative intensity (Highly Intense), while band number 10 has the lowest average relative intensity (barely detectable). For migrants, the highest percentage occurrence was exhibited. 25 with 64% and the lowest percentage occurrence was by band number 2 observed in bands number 5, 6 and 21 with 20%. The highly intense staining band number 1 and the barely detectable bands are bands number 11, 12, and 22. Statistical analysis (F-test) for the equality of variances revealed that there is no significant differences in the variability of plasma protein bands natives and migrants. This may imply possible interbreeding natives and migrants.
