Abstract
The developmental period, sex ratio, and pupal weight of the gold-fringed stemborer, Chile auricilius were monitored prior to toxicity tests. No significant variations in larval, pupal, and hatching to emergence time were observed between sexes. Goodness-of-fit test showed a good fit to the expected 1:1 sex ratio of the population. Pupal weights were found to be significantly different between sexes. Percent mean mortality of the neonates in the choice experiment was lower than in the no-choice test utilizing B.t. crystal protein, Cry 1ac. Behavioral studies on larvae showed avoidance and cessation of feeding on Cry 1ac formulated diets. The various bio-based toxins, Dipel, Cry 1ac, azadirachtin, and Margosan-0 had affected growth and development of the third instar larvae either by reducing the weights of larvae or slowing their development.
