Abstract
The M-phase of D. frutescens occurred at 12:30 p.m. The mitotic index was 7.05%. Acetocarmine/Orcein squash preparations of the root tip cells of a_ frutescens pretreated with 0.002% colchicine revealed the premetaphase chromosomes ideal for karyotyping. The chromosome number of frutescens was 2n=24. The relative length of the chromosome ranged from 0.07 to .10 . The arm ratios ranged from 1.26 to 1.45 . All the chromosomes are monocentrics and metacentrics. The centromeric indices ranged from 40.78% to 45.11%. Thus, C. frutescens possesed symmetric karyotype consisting of homomorphic chromosomes.
