Abstract

Root tip cellss of Centella asiatica were gathered to describe its chromosome number and chromosome morphology. Photomicrographs of premetaphase cells were prepared using acetocarmine squash technique and their interpretative drawings were used to construct the karyograms. The somatic chromosome number is 2n =18 which showed 10 - 14 long chromosome and 4 - 8 short chromosome. Two chromosomal class were classified: Group 1 comprise of the median chromosomes, and Group II comprise the submedian chromosome. the average mitotic index was found to be 16.80%
