Abstract

For this major practice internship, field immersion and on the job application of extension communication principles were integrated in the activities set forth by the El Nido Foundation Inc. Exposure to different programs and projects definitely helped identify the social parameters and being part of the experience helped inform the author about the direct and indirect impacts of ecotourism, the causes and effects, the local issues, the immediate and long-term issues and good and effective practices in the area of El Nido. After successfully completing the internship, it was established that social parameters such as job availability, opportunities in tourism and agriculture, available media, technology, resources and condition of community are understood to be the causes of hindrance to establish ecotourism in El Nido. Effective tourism projects through extension communication can keep an eye on the big picture. Extension communication can evaluate possible consequences of tourism activities and it can also contribute to the development of policies and plans for the tourism industry in El Nido, Palawan.
