Abstract

The 200-hour major practice was conducted at VEE TEE Dairy Farm, Lipa City, Batangas. April 4 to May 3., 2012 J. VEE TEE is a privately owned dairy farm that supplies milk to Milk Joy Dairy Plant. In there, the student was allowed to observe and participate in the management practices done at the farm. These include milking, feeding, fencing, and different husbandry practices for the different animal groups. Data gathered consists of what management practices are done, how they are performed and why. The farm has its own pasture that is sufficient in providing forage to its animals. Transportation is not a problem because the farm has its own delivery trucks and tractors for delivering milk and materials throughout the farm. The farm is also located near the city and is integrated with a coconut plantation and honey farm. However, the farm has no effective fencing and security and does not follow the standard milking procedure. This maybe a cause of future losses due to theft and disease. Hams are poorly constructed which may cause harm to the animals and the laborers. The milking cows to dry cows ratio is not ideal causing the farm to not be efficient. Recommendations for the farm would be to strengthen the barns, follow the standard milking procedure, tighten the security, and increase the number of milking cows. The lessons learned and gathered information from the farm was submitted in the form of a manuscript.
