Abstract
To identify RAPD markers for bruchid resistance (Br) gene to be used in marker assisted selection (MAS), ten UBC primers were tested on 208 mungbean ( Vigna radiata (L) Wilczek) DNA samples. A total of 61 polymorphic bands for all 10 primers were scored and analyzed with previous bioassay results. Two polymorphic bands were found to be present in high frequency in resistant samples: a 1400 by DNA fragment produced by primer UBC 168 and a 750 by DNA fragment produced by primer UBC 313. These two markers are also further characterized by their general absence in the susceptible samples. All these data and the previous detection of these two markers in resistant DNA bulks suggest that these two markers are possibly linked to Br gene and warrants further study.
