Abstract
Dilute methanol solution (5 and 15%) sprayed to the leaves of cotton plant (cv. UPL-C2) enhanced biomass pro-duction in terms of increased height (42.0 and 69.6% respectively over. the untreated plants), increased chlorophyll content (14.5 and 27.0% respectively), increased dry yield (100 and 184% respectively), increased yield of bolls (13.3 and 67.07 respectively), as well as the early maturation of the treated plants by as much as 18 and 32 days respectively. These improvements in the agronomic characteristics of the plants suggest a markedly improved photosynthetic process. This is likewise coupled to a slowed-down transpiration rate, a condition reflected in the higher relative water content of the leaves.
