Abstract
The mitotic behaviour of Zephyranthes atamasco Herb. was normal. For the karyomorphological analysis of Z. atamasco Herb., root tips were treated with 0.0011 colchicine to prevent spindle fiber formation thereby proddcing well—spread C—metaphase chromosomes. Zephyranthes atamasco Herb. has 2n = 18 with the chromosomes having relative lengths of large (2.1-1.7 units), medium (1.7-1.2 units) and small (1.2-0.8 units) with the position of the cenntromere as submetacentric, metacentric and acrocentric: 4 submetacentric, 13 metacentric and 1 acrocentric.
