Abstract
Chromosome number, meiotic behavior and pollen fertility of D. discolor Wild. were studied using the acetocarmine squash technique. The chromosome number was found to be 2n=30 (80.72%). Abnormalities observed were reduced chromosome number of 2n=26 (17.36%) and 2n=18 (1.92) at diakinesis; laggards in anaphase I (12.41%) and anaphase II (4.14%); nun-Lungression of bivalents or laggards in metaphase I (19.96%) and metaphase II (7.35%); and late disjunction in anaphase I (1.25%) and anaphase II (3.28%). Telophase I, prophase II and telophase II were 1007. normal. A high pollen fertility (88.98%) was observed due to the highly normal chromosome behavior observed during meiosis.
