ABSTRACT
EUSEBIO, ARTEMUS FANDINO. University of the Philippines Los Banos, October 1998. Karyotype Analysis of Adult Human Leukocytes treated in vitro with different concentrations of Sambong (Blume(' baisantifera L.) tablets. BS Biology (Genetics) Adviser. Dr. Merlyn S. Mendioro
Karyotype analysis of adult human male leukocytes cultured and treated with varying concentrations of sambong tablets: O%, 2% 3% and 5% in vitro was performed. The relative length of each chromosome was obtained and the slope for each chromosome was computed. To determine the significance of the data analysis of variance was conducted. Results showed that the treatments had significant effects on group G and the sex chromosomes. Significant results were noted on the shortening of chromosomes 2,6,7 and 8 and lengthening of chromosomes 21. 22, X and Y . Chromosome 6 had the most negative slope (-0.347) while Y had the most positive (0.494). Chromosomes 1, 3,4,5, 9-14 as well as 17 also decreased in length while the rest of the other chromosomes in the set increased, however this morphological change was not due to the treatment since their P values were not within the acceptable range for 5% level of significance. The change in length can be due to the presence of camphor which affects the rate of chromosome condensation.
