Abstract
The isozyme variability of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), esterase (EST), acid and alkaline phosphatases (ACPH and MPH) in populations of Oreochromis nilotica from Mayondon and Pakil were compared and analyzed using Mupid-2 system starch gel electrophoresis Liver, heart, eyes and muscle were the tissues used in this study The 2-Factor Factorial Experiment in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used to determine any interaction effect of the fishes' sampling site and organ localization on enzyme variability Results proved that all the variable effects of the sampling site on the polymorphism of the said enzymes arc highly organ dependent Twelve loci were detected after electrophoresis wherein three loci correspond to each of the enzyme systems The isozymes G6PD-1, EST-1, EST-2, ALPH-1, ALPH-2 and ACPH-1 were all polymorphic in the various organs of the two populations of tilapia Almost all of these isozymes exhibited the genotypes SS and FF. except ACPH-2, with art additional S/F locus. Consequently, the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used to summarize the interaction effect of these two factors on the number of isozyme bands among the various tissues of the tilapia. Enzyme polymorphism was found to be variable between organs within an individual and between individuals of the two sampling sites. Comparatively, the number of G6PD and ALPH isozyme bands differ remarkedly.
