Abstract

V, 'Diana' x V. Kamperanon and the trigeneric hybrid v. Kagawara Yuthayong are tissue culture regenerants. The mutant displays only three triangular edged sepals plus a lip which together with the modified petals form a protruding triangle/enclosure at the center of the flower. the reproductive organ of V. Kagawara had degenerated. Overlapping and increased size of the cells caused the thicker substance of the petals. Increased pigmentation was also observed in V. 'Diana' x V. Kamperanon. the chromosome number of V. 'Diana' x V. kamperanon is 2n=38. Meiotic behavior is generally regular in the mutant plant. Chromosomal abnormalitie like laggards, non-congression of chromosomes, and bridge formation were higher in the normal type.Normal V. 'Diana' x. v. kamperanon showed 19.3% pollen fertility compared to 88.2% of the mutant. this confirms the sterility of the normal plant.
