Abstract
the response of seedlings from embryo culture of Dendrobium UH 44 to gamma rays was studied during the first part of this study. Newly reflasked orchid protocorms were exposed to 0.5 kr. 2.0 kr. and 3.0 kr. In general, irradiation exerted a stimulatory effect on the protocorms specifically at 1.0 kr. Orchid protocorms were able to tolerate the given doses thus enabling the plants to recover and tissues to regenerate. On the second half of the experiment, gamma irradiated protocorms were reflasked on fresh media with 0.05% colchicine. Protocorms-like bodies appeared frequently on all the treated samples except for the control. These bodies represent a daily in the development of plantlets and can be attributed to the arrested cell division at a specific point of the cell cycle. Cross sections obtained from the protocorm-like bodies in all the treatments except for the control. showed an undefinite pattern of cell organization.
